The over-sprayed paint, which is airborne is passed through whirling and wash sections in a water wash booth. Thus, paint particles that are captured in the water stream within the booth need to be separated from recirculating water.
The paint contains uncured polymer resins, pigments, curing agents, etc. and other minor formulation ingredients. In addition, paint sludge contains water and a variety of organic solvents. The presence of uncured paint, resins, which cure and form a film upon heating, make the sludge very sticky and difficult to handle. Hence water requires PH adjustments and de-tackifying chemicals. The high production lines with multiple coat applications prefer centralized separation system. The resulting sludge is nonstick which floats on the surface and suitably separated.
